Losing Weight After Menopause - What Do You Need To Do

Middle age spread may be the bane of women the world over, but losing weight after menopause is not impossible. In fact, it can be quite an adventure. Sure, getting yourself down to the gym to work hard and sweat is not particularly appealing, but wearing that gorgeous new dress is. Besides, the gym is not the only way to exercise and lose weight after menopause.

Losing weight after menopause is vital to your health. Exercise will not only make your experience of your Golden Years much more pleasant, but your life will run much more smoothly—not just because you countered  the menopausal effect of a slowed metabolism, but because better health means more fun.

Exercise can be thought of in one of two ways: either it’s a chore and makes you miserable, or, it’s another way to have some fun. For example… you know the grandkids love to swim. So, take them to the local community pool. Do that every week or every other week, and your daughter-in-law will bless you. And, the time you spend splashing with the kids won’t seem like exercise at all, but will have all the benefits.

Do you like to ride a bicycle? Kids do too. But you don’t have to do everything with the grandkids. Losing weight after menopause can be as simple as riding a bicycle every other day for 20 or 30 minutes. And if biking is not your thing, waking is even easier. Do you have a pet that needs walking? Take your pet to the park and throw a toy around for it to chase.

It may not sound exactly like exercise, but any activity done for at least 30 minutes a day, that gets you up, breathing and moving will suffice to help you lose weight after menopause.

What are some of the other benefits of exercise? How about better sleep? If you’re like me, I know you miss getting good sleep. Exercise puts you in the right frame to sleep soundly. How about maintaining flexibility? Instead of groaning whenever you get up or down, and hearing your joints cracking, you’ll find yourself jumping up with no second thought to it.

Then there’s the all important bone density issue. Exercise will help you strengthen the bones and maintain density. It might not sound like that has much to do with losing weight after menopause, but actually, anything that helps you stay strong and moving, helps.

And how about those energy levels? At and after menopause, the metabolism has a nasty tendency of slowing down. But that’s can be completely avoided with exercise. And we all know that a faster metabolism burns more calories, leading to more—and easier—loss of weight after menopause.

Other activities that you can look into are gardening yoga and dancing. Basically, anything that gets you moving will help. And it doesn’t have to be the same thing every day. You get to pick and choose and that’s a nice side benefit to losing weight after menopause.
